Danish Home Entrance

Entry with mud-catching grill

How many times do you yell to your kids, "Wipe your feet!" before they come running into the house? Not only did this Danish couple have a son who was both an eight-year-old playful terror and a wheelchair user, they had just laid brand new light-colored oak flooring throughout their house. To prevent instant demolition of their flooring and patience, they came up with such a unique solution that all the kids in the neighborhood came in with clean feet. By the main entrance was a side door that led to a mud room. Before this door stood a ground-level grill placed over a four-foot deep pit. Their son rolled up, hosed down his wheels, then rolled into the mud room to dry them off before entering the house.
