An Elegant/Accessible Bathroom

Shower Bench

This Portland, OR [USA], wheelchair user and homeowner savored elegance. To wit, his roll-in shower area was marble-lined and was fully lined with matching, non-slip tiles that lined the shower floor. Granite tiles were laid on the remaining bathroom floor. All grab bars and towel racks were constructed of oak. His shower is well-lit with natural light coming from both the glass brick wall and window. To the far left, invisible in the photograph, is a marble, built-in bathtub with wide rims around its' top edge to allow for ample ease while transferring from a wheelchair. Though not all individuals have the money to spend on such elegance, the point here is that accessibility need not be detrimental to the design of any place, a point all home designers should recognize.
